Peek at the Week: Each student is provided with this sheet weekly. It will come home on Monday. It will be kept in the student’s green daily folder. Students are responsible for keeping up with this sheet. It will have contact information for me, upcoming classroom news/reminders, and conference/lunch times. It will have sight words, spelling words, and other assignments listed on it.
Behavior Log: Each student is provided with this sheet. It will be located in their Red graded papers folder which will go home once a week. Your child will receive a weekly conduct grade. I use the clip chart system and their grade will depend on the number of clip changes they have had for the week.
Attendance/Tardiness/Absences: Upon arrival, all second graders will meet in the gym until picked up by their teacher. The first bell rings at 7:50. The tardy bell will ring at 8:00. Your child must go to the office for a tardy slip if he/she arrives after the tardy bell.
It is very important that your child be in attendance and on time every day. Please sent a written and signed note each time your child is absent.
Snack Time: We will have a snack time every day for our students. Please send a little snack with your child each day. All snacks should be healthy. Sugary snacks do not keep tummies from being hungry! Students may only drink water for snack. Please send your child with a water bottle. Please do not send colas, juice, kook-aid, flavored water etc. You may send whatever you wish in your child’s lunch.
Homework: Look for homework assignments in your child’s green daily folder. The homework given falls into one of these four categories:
Math Homework: This is an extension of work that has been introduced in class. This homework is an individualized drill activity designed to help strengthen the child’s understanding of skills taught in class. You can expect this homework to be sent home on Tuesday and Thursday.
Reading: This will consist of reading their library books, which will be on their individual reading level as well as weekly readers from our Treasures Reading Program. I encourage you to read with your child on a daily basis.
Unfinished Work: This is work that is not completed in class and is within the student’s capability to finish at home.
Review: This is time spent at home studying and preparing for tests in all subject areas. This includes studying for spelling and vocabulary tests.
Graded Paper Folder: Graded papers from the previous week will be sent home the following week in the red “STOP” folder. There will be a documentation sheet in the folder for you to sign. Folders are always due back on the following day and you can keep the graded papers.
